NEW! SERIES 2023-24
✓ Overland and Overzone are available today with an ALL-SEASON opening roof, multifunctional and completely renewed, to sleep truly outdoors, protected and in total privacy.
✓ The useful protective pre-entry, ideal in case of bad weather, becomes standard. The transparent Crystal panels supplied with the tent, strictly removable, allow you to enjoy the view while it rains outside.
✓ The fabric of the roof is polyester 255 g/m2 coupled with an anti UV blackout net of 170 gr/m2, which reaches a waterproofness equal to 1000 mm of water column.
For the sides, on the other hand, a combined 50% cotton and 50% polyester fabric is used, in a toned down black colour for Overland and Olive Green for Overzone, to guarantee a high breathability of 53 mm/s in addition to waterproofing. Its consistency is 420 g/m2 to offer excellent stability.
In addition, the fabrics used are Blackout: they do not let the light filter, neither seeing the shapes of the occupants.
One more advantage: The combination of the two fabrics provides for a breathable anti-condensation cabin.
✓ Overland and Overzone are fitted with new high-tech darkening mosquito nets.
From the inside it is possible to see outside, but from the outside it is not possible to see inside.
✓ Technical reasons as lead to the selection of these colours. The double-sided black roof and the Carbon colour on the walls do not filter the first lights of the day.
✓ A widely tested, high-tech yarn, composed of two different fibres is used.
Cotton on the outside to inflate and fill the holes produced by the needle, and on the inside a synthetic core to obtain a considerably higher resistance than cotton.
✓ It is the fundamental element to sleep well.
To decide what to offer, Autohome specialists tested different solutions and carried out different tests. The market offers multiple proposals: coupled sponge rubbers, shaping rubbers, layered rubbers, shaped rubbers, massage solutions and even extravagant. But Autohome choosed only the best, to satisfy even the most demanding customer.
✓ All metal parts are designed and produced exclusively by Autohome.
After a careful evaluation of the advantages offered by the lower weight of aluminium alloys, it has now been decided to prefer steel. Although we wanted to maintain the ladder and aluminium elements as in the past, the total weight of the tent could be reduced by no more than 4-5 kg. So, we chose a stable, durable, and long-lasting bed.
✓ Poplar plywood is used because the material, with its long fibre, is also more elastic and resistant. It is made specifically for the specific Autohome production in 7 layers. These are glued together in cross-overlay, according to the grain of the plant to improve the characteristics of the product. Subsequently the platform is finished with two sheets of black plastic for both the interior and the exterior. Thus, the plywood is totally waterproof and water-repellent both on the outside and inside. Consequently, by not absorbing moisture, it does not deform and favour the formation of mould. An excellent result, not comparable to normal polyurethane foam floors, alveolar structures, synthetic or lightened with polystyrene, all of precarious resistance and poor durability over time. The Autohome platforms do not mark, deform, crack or crumble.
✓ The ladder was redesigned to achieve the best goals of functionality, reliability, and comfort.
First, it is made of stainless steel (a material, a certainty!), with wide wooden steps. Especially designed with minimum thickness uprights, it remains housed above the closed tent without deforming the cover. Designed and manufactured specifically for the Autohome tents. Nothing comparable to the low-cost roof tents not specific to this field of application.
– The ladder is an integral part of the frame, this is directly connected to the backbone of the tent (i.e. to the hinging of the two halves of the planes) by 2 omega support profiles placed diagonally, so as to better distribute the weight of the occupants. The result is: less flexions, more resistance, more stability and reduced thickness to a minimum.
A patent born in Autohome that since 1958 many tried to imitate, without success. Its uniqueness is the result of several interrelated factors:
– It is always ready and easily deployed.
– It is designed with a ladder block, to avoid slipping on slippery ground or floors.
– EASY USE telescopic adjustment is a very reliable smart solution, that has made the history of the roof tent. It is easy to adjust and is always functional.
– The ladder can be quickly extended to fit any height, within its maximum length of 2.30 m
– Compact and linear, it does not generate protrusions or malformations to the cover when the tent is closed while travelling.
– It is fitted with sturdy wooden steps, waterproof and water-repellent. Elegant, natural and of pleasant design, they offer a wide non-slip support. They also do not warm up in the sun and thus always allow you to climb barefoot.
Our Cover is even more sturdy.
A solidity which is the result of specific choices, starting from the materials: 600Gr/sqm PVC with 900gr/sqm reinforcements in the most stressed points. A solidity enhanced by a special shaping with internal seams, more resistant than normal welding. More precisely, they do not fall apart. A synergy to withstand even the highest climatic temperatures and offer superior aerodynamic stability.
With a regular parallelepiped shape, our covers have slightly rounded corners to enhance stability and safety, so they do not require upper ties with visible straps, affecting the tent aesthetics of the tent. The result is a clean and tidy line, to always travel with style.
Drawing on the experience of the most performing commercial vehicles, such as big lorries and curtain-sided trucks, Autohome covers also use a perimetral adjustable elastic rope for binding, in order to compensate for any expansion of the materials due to weather conditions: the cover remains well-fitted to the tent, without any zipper.
A choice of reliability made in 1958 and always confirmed, considering also that the elastic rope is easy to replace. 6mm in diameter and variable length according to the perimeter or model of the tent. The coupling and the regulation are carried out by two carabiners placed at the ends. Today the coupling and uncoupling is easier even when the tent is fixed on the roof bars or on baggage racks, thanks to the special tool supplied together with the cover.
This practicality is appreciated in every condition: you will have no problem in case of unfastening or coupling even in the desert, in marshy areas, on muddy roads, in the presence of foliage and shrubs, because the elastic tie rod always works and will never fail.
The quality of our cover is branded with the Autohome logo on the 110 cm short side, while on the long side there is a label representing the legendary paths of Nino Cirani. Black was chosen for the colour: always elegant and anti-stain.

✓ Large window designed to offer an excellent view, but above all great privacy. When open, it assures the right privacy and cosiness.
✓ Firmly made in Fiberglass, they have been further reinforced: a manual pressure is enough to highlight the quality and robustness achieved in the new series, especially the roof.
Glass Reinforced Plastic is therefore an anti-UV material with undisputed and well-known advantages: stability, acoustics, thermal insulation, lightness, repairability in case of accidents or breakages, non-deformability, and durability.
Like those of the best fiberglass boats, flawless and always in shape, they are not subject to degradation.
✓ They are an integrated part to the design of the upper shell and today their section is slightly increased. When the tent is closed, while travelling, it gives more protection and better counteracts the impact of the air coming from each direction. When the tent is open, it reduces the flow of rainwater on the fabrics offering a greater protection. A significant detail, whose efficiency is highlighted over time.
✓ The size of the shells is confirmed, so their capacities are unchanged. While in the Large models they are reinforced to increase their stability.
✓ Located under the roof, it increases its section with a durable effect against infiltration of water, dust and sand while travelling.
An even more airtight and elastic closure is ideal to withstand the most demanding Off Road stresses.
✓ The section of the step was enlarged for a more comfortable support of the foot and to have a more agile and easy climb. On the other hand, the discharges on the ladder joining plates are confirmed. To block the ladder, there is the Lock Security system, which is provided as standard.
✓ Comfortable and adjustable element, firmly attached to the shell, it allows to lower the roof and facilitates the closing phase. Now it is also easily removable. An evolution which avoids noise in case of wind and reduces the overall dimensions. The roll clips of the back door can be locked by Velcro directly under the drip of the roof. The whole system is windproof.
✓ The fixing points of the aluminium profile of the base were doubled in mechanical form, thus the structural rigidity is much improved and even more robust people can you the tent safely.
✓ The gap was increased in thickness, as well as the anti-condensation layer. Result: a more isolated roof, less noisy in the rain, softer and pleasant to the touch.
✓ The quality of the GELCOAT has been improved; the NATURE WHITE and BLACK STORM colours are confirmed.
It should be noted that the DOMESTIC WHITE colour of the basic models is running low.
✓ The forces of the springs have been increased to have a more tensioned fabric. In addition, the closure is easier, thanks to the new arrangement of the levers and springs.
✓ Colours of the AUTOHOME logo on the shells have been renewed: silver, black variant on demand on Black Storm models.
✓ The additional perimeter protection, ideal in bad weather, becomes from today a “standard” solution.
Wing means two prominent eaves on the side entrances, and a wide back protection. This self-supporting solution can be easily attached to the roof with Velcro and a modular arched pole.
The feeling of protected space and airiness is remarkable: an upgrade designed to increase attention and appreciation.
✓ Entirely redesigned, it offers even more functional and customizable solutions. The transparent glass PVC needs to be mentioned, allowing to see outside even in case of bad weather, which now become removable. The customised back door openings are supported by aluminium poles embedded in the fabrics, to counteract the negative effects of the wind.

An evolution which avoids noise in case of wind and reduces the overall dimensions. The roll clips of the back door can be locked by Velcro directly under the drip of the roof. The whole system is windproof.
✓ A transparent PVC window allowing to see outside even in case of bad weather, always fixed and permanent, is now removable when needed. PVC can be a source of heat retention and condensation, so the fact that the window can be removed is very useful when environmental conditions lead to a high rate of humidity and heat, for example during the sultry summer nights, when the feeling of discomfort is accentuated by body evaporation.
The window, fitted in the upper part of the rear door, can be easily applied and removed thanks to the special Velcro.
✓ The internal ventilation system, which is now called AIR CLIMATE, changes its appearance and size. It now has a wide opening in the upper part of the fabric, 80 cm wide, which efficiently and naturally promotes air exchange.
✓ A new solution applied to the inner ceiling, equipped with closeable pockets to prevent objects and other materials falling.
✓ Firmly made in Fiberglass, they have been further reinforced: a manual pressure is enough to highlight the quality and robustness achieved in the new series, especially the roof.

✓ Colours of the AUTOHOME logo on the shells have been renewed: silver, black variant on demand on Black Storm models.
✓ All Maggiolina and Airtop tent models, when opened, now have a higher height. An important upgrade, which does not change the natural stability that is an integral part of the success of these tents.
✓ Increasing the internal height, the comfort of the product changes significantly: the raised roof of the new series, allows you to stay agile, having easy motions even while sitting in the tent. The feeling of space and airiness is really unique.
✓ The doors are even larger; 90 cm. The tent becomes even more welcoming and functional, as well as offering the advantage of facilitating the moments of dressing and undressing. It should also be noted that these wide openings are easily transformed into large windows with a custom opening.
✓ A further opportunity: the 360 tent models are fitted with transparent PVC glass protections to see outside even in case of bad weather. Both on the right and left side of the tent you have a great view. Of course, the Crystal protections are removable in case of intense humidity and heat. This new feature makes the 360 models even more pleasant to live in all weather conditions.
✓ The principle of greater livability (+ livability + airiness) also characterizes the windows, thanks to larger dimensions, without affecting privacy.
✓ The 360 models are fitted with a removable transparent Crystal protection. These windows are not permanent on the tent, they can be sources of heat and condensation, even when simply rolled up. That is why they are fitted with Velcro that makes them easily and totally removable when necessary. The tents are provided with a flat bag for the windows which can be stored under the mattress.
✓ A new solution applied to the inner ceiling, equipped with closeable pockets to prevent objects and other materials falling.
✓ Better waterproof capacity, while the breathability remains almost unchanged, as it is an essential characteristic for Autohome.
✓ Firmly made in Fiberglass, they have been further reinforced: a manual pressure is enough to highlight the quality and robustness achieved in the new series, especially the roof.

The Extreme Series is confirmed only in the Black Storm version.
✓ The forces of the springs have been increased to have a more tensioned fabric. In addition, the closure is easier, thanks to the new arrangement of the levers and springs.
✓ The new device is adopted, which blocks the glass of the upper window when it is completely open at 90°.
✓ A special protection is now available, valuable in the event of incorrect closing manoeuvres by the user.
✓ Colours of the AUTOHOME logo on the shells have been reviewed: bronze on the models with a crank opening, silver for the models with gas springs opening. Black variant on demand on Black Storm models.

MORE NEWS AND DETAIL
INTO THE MOOD: the video in which fashion meets adventure and Autohome tents was a real challenge. Complicated to organize and many extras to deal with but it is a video of great pride.
The video that I managed in every organisational, logistical, and filming aspect with my reference Art Director.
An intense but exciting week of shooting. And finally, my first time in the desert, sleeping under the starry sky with the Autohome tent was a unique experience.
How many kilometres of road and how many years of history lie between Dallas in Texas and Rivarolo Mantovano, an ancient medieval town dominated by the Gonzaga family? A lot. And maybe just the idea of a journey, of sharing special experiences could lead me to choose to leave the US to move here. A decision that says a lot about what Autohome means to me, the mythical roof tents for big travellers, like Nino Cirani for example. In Texas we may not know Rivarolo Mantovano, but we know well what Autohome quality means: travelling quietly all over the world. Masterpiece tents, like the works of art that made Italy great. Like the creations of the most famous fashion designers.
Since I have been here in Italy, I have noticed that Italians are all a bit artists, and in Mantua even more: the taste of beauty is in their hearts, they carry it inside them, if only to judge by the monumental and architectural beauties that characterize their territory.
Today I am 37 years old and have been working in Autohome since 2002. 19 years of working life in the midst of roof tents. So, I think I know these products very well, which allow you to have a rewarding holiday in complete freedom: you stop where you want, especially with the shell tents that remain more shaped to the car. The fabric tents are obviously not bad, also very habitable. But a little more binding when you have to make scope at least in different European nations. It is better to go camping or in equipped areas. At Autohome we are a big and beautiful family, all enthusiastic about the products we manufacture. If I have to say the product that I prefer for me is Maggiolina Extreme Forest. I really appreciate the colour green, perhaps also because I have always been looking for it. Texas is largely desert, while my soul is in the great forests… All to be covered with an Autohome tent on the roof.
Hello! My name is Andrew Driscoll, and I am a member of the Autohome USA Staff, based in Santa Cruz, California. From this logistics centre we ship products throughout North America. It is extremely important for me to directly work with the Autohome headquarter in Italy: I know that they are proud of it, so I also esteem them for what they do.
I have been in the field of roof tents for several years now and I can say with peace of mind that since I started the business, I have never seen such a wide success for this formidable product: the demand for roof tents has grown exponentially. There are many reasons, but surely one of the most important is the desire for a more real and direct contact with nature, now more than ever felt by many people of all ages. The roof tent market also won over travellers who did not think of this solution before.
The question is becoming so relevant that the Autohome company correctly warned that the delivery times of their tents could be lengthened. For our part, we are doing everything possible to help our customers, but the American continent is huge, and it is almost impossible to have a more widespread distribution than what we are having now.
Even in this market scenario, Autohome decided with seriousness to confirm its company philosophy: each Autohome tent is an Italian-made product, still largely handmade, thanks to the craftsmanship of experts. In order for quality to be always at the top, there are no alternatives: the best fiberglass is produced like this, stretched by hand layer on layer, exactly as you do with the best boats.
They are tents that stand out also for their design: a style that speaks for itself, you can see that it is all Italian. I believe that if a product is longed for in California it will be successful worldwide. And that was exactly the case for Autohome.
Personally, among the many models available, I particularly like Airtop 360°. It is a tent that adapts to all weather conditions. It allows you to “make room” wherever you are, even within majestic, breathtaking natural scenery. Totally immersed in nature.
So, let’s start with Autohome. But be careful, I repeat: book the products in advance. Long live Italy, long live America, long live Autohome.
I introduce myself: I am Alessandro Spiridonica and in Autohome I am liable for the warehouse. I joined the company three years ago and I became manager, a result that naturally gives me great pleasure and many satisfactions. Although I am aware of the great responsibility that this role entails.
It is in fact a job that if on one hand I like a lot, on the other hand it requires an extraordinary effort, especially at some times of the year… For example, in the months of June and July I would rather be… somewhere else in the world, travelling with my Overzone, my favourite tent. I appreciate the military green colour. It is, among other things, a particular green, at the same time delicate and with a strong personality. Combined with the safari-coloured roof, it makes the tent a pass-partout for any destination and adventure: congratulations to the colleagues of the style office! In addition, the fabric is particularly consistent, because it responds to precise military specifications, another element that gives solidity to the tent. A safety that does not give up comfort and well-being: the degree of breathability is in fact high, equal to 53 mm/s, in line with ISO 9237-97 standards. I do not want to be too “technical”, but they are decisive when choosing a tent. These are the factors that lead me to say: do not be “dazzled” by the mirages of low-cost products that seem of quality, but then result in low breathability. During travel they can become your worst nightmare!
Remember instead that Overzone is a real roof top tent, with a roof that is integral to the walls. It is 100% original Autohome and Made in Italy. That is all I have to say.
To make great roof tents you need the right ingredients and a lot of dedication, just like for high quality cooking. I did not make this reference by chance: before joining the Autohome staff I worked in high-level catering, an area where I won many awards and recognitions. What made me change my field of interest? The immeasurable passion for travel and for the product that best interprets this desire: the Autohome tents.
As you can see, my professional commitment did not change: my job, in fact, today as yesterday, is to carry out a final check before “serving the dish” or sending the tent to the customer.
I am also passionate about vintage motorcycles and vehicles: originality and history always appeal to me. I find a perfect synthesis of this double passion of mine in the epic of Nino Cirani and his faithful Overland tent.
It is precisely this tent that I will install this year on my vintage “Ape Car”, purchased to move in an unconventional and completely new way. The intention is to make a few tours in Southern Italy, I am sure that with my vehicle equipped with Overland I will not go unnoticed! And this will be my contribution, out of the box but original, to proudly declare to everyone that I am part of the great Autohome family!
In Autohome I have a task that I consider a real privilege: I sign every tent with the company brand, applying branded transfers at regular intervals of the production. It is as if you “baptize” each tent with the name that will make it unique. Its identity. I actually deal with fabrics, all kinds of fabrics, that all go through my hands.
While I work, I often think about the destination of the products we are making, and I imagine how far they will go… on the slopes around the world… I love traveling and therefore I also like company trips to set up stands in trade fairs or for events with customers, or for photographic shoots and collaboration with video crews. I would never want to miss these backstage! Of course, they also happen very far from home… to the end of the world. But this is not a problem for me, on the contrary they are experiences that strengthen your spirit and make you know new cultures. I would like to live them every month! For example, the most recent work that I remember with pleasure is the video sequences that we shoot along an Italian river. With our tents, protagonists in the world of fashion, a perfect dialogue between charm and style. Four intense days, which led us to be a little all actors…
The tents I prefer are the rigid tents. They give me a sense of greater protection and security, in all weather and climatic conditions. Then there is the advantage of space: it is important that the profile does not protrude from the car when the tent is open. On a chromatic level, I particularly like the white colour of the shell, elegant and easy to keep clean. While my judgment may be biased, remember that Autohome is truly the Top of the market.
Working with fibreglass I think is “an art”. A sort of alchemy, when human and technical skills are perfectly matched. It is a demanding job, which requires knowledge in different disciplines: physics, chemistry, mechanics… Supplemented by a lot of manual wisdom and patience as well.
Being in charge of one of the company departments that deals with “shells” (the first in order of time… we were real pioneers in our sector!) is always exciting, even if now there are many of us in the team. I am one of the oldest employees of the company, I started in 1985 and today I am proud to teach the job to young people willing to. I manage about 20 great people. Our activity is mainly related to shell painting. In other words, this is the first operation followed by the laying of the glass fibre using rollers and brushes, an almost entirely manual operation.
As I said, dexterity is matched with technology. I also mentioned patience, because the times for moulding a fibreglass product are very long. However, this attention plays a significant role in defining the superior quality of Autohome. Because our shells are not made of molded or thermoformed plastic, typical of certain serial productions made in Asia, where even more than 20 pieces per hour are mechanically manufactured… too many, but not very good quality as well!
While in Autohome, making a shell takes almost a lifetime, but it is the right way to get a more stable and durable tent. In short, fiberglass has always been the Top for 60 years, as we try to explain in our info. I smile when they tell us: “you in Autohome are geniuses, Italian geniuses…” While I simply think that we are a great family, certainly Italian, who loves things done well.
If you think that dealing with fabrics in Autohome means taking care of only one type of material, it is better… that I explain who I am and what I do! I am liable for coordinating the entire fabric department. I am “the Trainer” of a great team, attentive and meticulous. Our job is to draw and cut fabrics, in particular by managing laser cutting machines. I constantly co-operate with the other production and packaging departments. Ours is a very demanding activity, sometimes really stressful, especially because we have to keep a pace to allow the entire production chain to proceed efficiently, without interruptions.
In addition to this task, I am also liable for the quality control of the raw material, I cannot afford mistakes or put into production a fabric that is not perfect. My company is very demanding and so am I.
We have different types of fabrics based on the model of the tent, a range that is based on multiple technical reasons, which would be long now to explain, but which I summarize as follows: quality.
And Autohome always aims to guarantee this goal: for each model a single fabric, at the top for quality. While those who standardize the raw material obviously reduce its production cost at the expense of quality. As you can imagine, many tents that come to the market, from Asia in particular, do not have fabrics suitable for the task they will have to do. While Autohome chooses only European-made fabrics, whose reliability is precisely defined and controlled. Also, for this reason Autohome means prestige. A fact of which I am truly proud of.
To the question “what is the best tent?”, I cannot give an answer, because anyone who knows this product well will tell you: it depends on many factors. Personally, I appreciate the shell models simply because I have a real roof over my head. Experts define these rooftops as “Active Hard Shell”. I think it is a perfect definition and it is worth more than many other words.
Call me “veteran”. Not only am I not offended, but I am pleased! I have been in Autohome for over 20 years. I went from apprentice to department manager. Having helped bring Autohome tents to the level of fame and prestige they have today around the world makes me proud. In 1990, when I joined the company, I was a shy girl who had so much to learn. But it was nice to start like this: there were few of us in those years, if I remember correctly, we were only 20 people. We also manufactured an almost mysterious, strange product. When I tried to explain roof tents to friends or acquaintances, few immediately understood what I was talking about. There were even those who predicted that the Autohome experience would soon be over. No one imagined that our tents could reach these levels of success. It gives me great satisfaction to know that the tents assembled with my hands are displayed in the showrooms of prestigious car manufacturers on five continents.
If we have come this far today it means that we have been good, we worked well and above all we have a quality product.
From the specific experience I gained in the company, I can say that I know well the shell tents. Personally, my favourite tent has always been Maggiolina Airlander blue, with white shells. I cannot give a rational motivation to this choice, I probably got attached because it was the first series that I started to assemble. Initially the only colour available was blue.
Another unmistakable element that I appreciate about Maggiolina is the crank: it always knows how to make a difference. To achieve the right tension of the fabrics simply act on the crank. It can create a perfectly adjustable fabric tension, manageable throughout the life of the tent. For me, Maggiolina Airlander blue remains my favourite. It is also the model we produce the most… nothing happens by chance!
The Autohome tents that you find in our range were all designed in the department where I work: I am Alex Gozzi and I work in the Research & Development department, mainly liable for the shape and the design of the products. My task is to achieve a distinctive aesthetic, able to combine style and functionality, a challenging job that requires vision and collaboration among the team members. In addition to coordinating my fellow designers, I optimize production and deal with quality control.
My mission is to improve the tents from every point of view, from the opening systems to the implementations necessary for the development of the product. From one year to the next there are many innovations introduced, for example this year we designed a useful key lock that was promptly a real success. Another example is our new solution for fixing the tent to the roof bars through the newly designed “C” guides with an optimised section making assembly even more comfortable and safe. We then reviewed all the tent opening mechanisms and the ladder was completely updated in terms of materials and components.
In addition, the team designed a new production system to increase the daily productivity of our departments.
In the spring-summer season, moreover, we are always under pressure, but this year we have recorded a real boom of requests, from all over the world.
What tent do I recommend? There is, of course, no “ideal” tent. You have to decide on the basis of how you use the product. As for the evolution of the product, I follow a typical philosophy in the mindset of the designers: the best tent is always the latest in terms of design. So, I am talking about our model being fitted on Land Rover Defender.
My job is to “make ends meet”, in practice to check that incoming and outgoing items deliver the desired budget results. Everyone in Autohome knows that Roberto, that is me, is the one who keeps the company numbers under control.
When it comes to finding the right economic equilibrium, everyone comes knocking in my department! Moreover, together with the marketing department, I work to identify the necessary budget and how to invest to allow the company to grow. It is a strong responsibility, both from an administration and tax point of view, but obviously I am not alone, I have valid colleagues beside me who support me.
Honestly, I never used roof tents directly. But in truth it is as if I had done so, considering all the holiday, travel, and adventure stories I heard in recent years: in the company and by our partners and customers. For example, the story of Nino Cirani struck me since the first day I joined Autohome: pioneering, fascinating, engaging.
I cannot say I have a favourite tent, but I am always attracted to the genuine product, whether it is a shoe, a pair of jeans or a tailored dress. Thus, I can say that Autohome is the “beautiful quality tent”, the Made in Italy product that made and continues to make the history of the tent on the roof, throughout the world. This is confirmed by the data provided by my colleague at the head of the marketing department. I deal with numbers. I notice that Autohome is really a fantastic adventure born in Italy, brought to the five continents and that now more than ever develops “large numbers”.
At Autohome, I deal with administrative services, office paperwork. But in the company, among colleagues, I am known as “Riccardo the motor raider”. My great passions are in fact travels and motorcycle tours. In any case, over the years I “changed my skin a little”, and I increasingly appreciate the car holiday. It is no coincidence that I put the purchase of an off-road vehicle on my bucket list. The long journey around Europe or perhaps in the desert attracts me a lot and sooner or later I will decide to do it.
I think the roof tent is the perfect off-road choice. I share the spirit of adventure and full freedom. It also corresponds to my character: I personally do not limit myself to taking a quiet holiday by the sea, I love true adventure.
I am also a perfectionist: I also look a lot at style, as well as functionality. Perhaps this is why I prefer the Overland tent, the most rational model, without so many frills or parts that can generate noise and instability in the wind, let alone make sailing effect. At night I want to sleep soundly. My favourite colour is Carbon, although Safari is not bad as well, in any case I do not love the strong and impactful colours, especially when the tent is closed. Grey and black are the dominant colours of each vehicle, as can be seen in the bumpers and tyres: the closed tent will thus be well coordinated with the aesthetics of the vehicle.
Ah, then a good thick, opaque, and breathable fabric is important. I do not want to suffocate or wake up in the early morning. For me, Overland complies with all these desires of mine. A winning tent, always.
Can you be nostalgic for your company? I say yes because it happened to me! After working for several years at Autohome, I decided to move to London. I lived in the English capital for about 2 years. I wanted to live new experiences overseas. But then I felt the need to return to Italy and resume, with a new position, the job I left. Today I am more than satisfied with working at Autohome. I like to work with my team and above all I like the products I build. When you see that the product you make is of quality, the pleasure increases. I think they are the best tents on the market, no doubt. And I am really convinced and not because I work for the company. Moreover, in Autohome there are high quality standards precisely defined, and then each tent is largely made by hand, one by one. Every one of our tents, many say, has a real soul.
In the company I deal with many aspects of the supply chain, I assist colleagues in different phases. Generally, however, I take care of joining the shells to the fabrics, that is, I carry out assembly work. But I am not limited to this, thanks to my mechanical skills I support a little all departments. If there is something to fix, I’m always the first to be called!
I could not recommend a specific model of tent. I can only stress to never give up an Autohome tent… The real advice is to book the product on time, because especially during the summer the requests are many. What do I remember of my experience in England? Get to know the English language a little better. It is always useful because it is spoken around the world. But when it comes to tents there is only one universal language, that is Autohome!
In my life I have always dealt with graphics. I love aesthetics, image, beauty in all its forms, whether it is a work of art or a design product. It may be due to fate, but I am now working in a company that knows these values well and applies them in its products.
I am therefore very happy to have been part of the Autohome team for a few years. I am originally from Mexico, whose national colours are exactly like the Italian ones: white, red, and green. Our flags say so much about our characters, which are also a bit similar: passionate like red and nature lovers like green. The white in the middle says: we choose according to our desire to prefer one or the other according to the mood of the moment! Perhaps it is because of these similarities between Mexico and Italy that I immediately found a total symbiosis with the country where the real roof tent was born, the product that Autohome made known and appreciated to travellers around the world.
I am very accurate, and I try very carefully to scrupulously follow every creative and image detail that is indicated to me by my marketing manager, Valentina. A young but very demanding woman, who rightly wants me everyday commitment and creativity, even in the smallest details.
I do not have a roof tent for now but being in Autohome is like… living with these tents every day! The product has all our attention and must be known well. On a general aesthetic level, I particularly love black. So even for tents I prefer the colour black, which is a real colour and knows how to excite! While for the tent model I like to focus on rationality, essentiality, that is why for me I would choose the Black Edition Overcamp.
Since 2017, I have been organizing and planning production at Autohome. In fact, every day, I plan the tasks and activities of the many people who work to make our tents. My “mission” is to make sure that all the “company gears” turn in the right direction, trying to best meet the growing demand for products from around the world.
It is a commitment that can give great satisfaction, even if it involves you as in a daily challenge. In fact, I constantly struggle with the supplies, which often arrive late, not to say at the last minute. Sometimes I have to work real miracles. There was someone who knew how to multiply the loaves and the fishes: well, I have to multiply… the tents!
Personally, I am a sunny character, and I’ve always appreciated the beautiful season. Since working at Autohome, I also started to appreciate winter. Why? Simple: it is the time of year in which we can take a little breath because there is a natural slowdown in shipments. Of course, I am joking we are all very happy with the growing success of our tents.
The Autohome tent model I prefer? It is Airtop Black Edition. On functional features it is a world reference. On aesthetics, I am just saying that black for me is the colour of absolute elegance. It is never old-fashioned. It is also perfect for the design of my car. Also, in terms of style Autohome can give much more than all the others. Autohome has always been the number one, if nothing else… for the miracles it knows how to do!
Reading my name, you immediately understood that I am a person who recalls territories far from Europe, with the spirit of adventure in my blood. I was born in Persia. The rich Mesopotamia and the desert are my motherland, which I know well. Since I was little, I have been living in Germany, where I studied and grew up.
I personally manage the “Autohome DE” sales office. My clients are mostly Germans. In fact, I am liable for the commercial activity in Germany, and I support the Autohome central marketing office in the organization of our participation in the fairs that take place in Germany. My activity with headquarters is easy as I speak Italian.
Very often I also took part in research projects to develop new products, based on the experience I have gained both in the dealer field and with car manufacturers. For example, I was interested in the importance of mosquito nets for a roof tent, the selection of technical fabrics and the choice of some other materials that make up the tent. I believe, for example, that I reported to the Autohome staff how to obtain the best mosquito nets on the market: effective and at the same time rightly obscuring. I am constantly committed, with great passion, to providing advice to develop innovation on the products themselves, and this is thanks to the fact that I always interacted with a very demanding audience.
I am proud that my reports are taken seriously by Autohome Product Technical Management.
Although I am far from the company’s headquarters, I am always in contact with my Italian colleagues. My business can be said to have always been strongly linked to the outdoors. Already from my first job I worked in the sector, and I was an integral part of Bernd Woick for the management and sales and purchases of Autohome roof tents, founded and directed by a true master of adventure. I learned a lot from this formidable expert.
I personally used several Autohome models. I do not think I am “biased”, in saying that Autohome for me is number one. All those who really know a roof tent say so. My favourite tent is a special Overland, the Black Edition version. The reason for this choice is that I cannot stand the early morning lights. When I sleep, I only want the dark, I do not want to find myself in a tent that lets the first light of the morning pass. With Autohome the fabrics are always very thick and protect very well from light. To rest without limits of… light, choose Black tents! They are the best for me.
When an Autohome tent reaches a customer, all over the world, the long organizational journey and that shipping is my job. I am Silvia Sarzi, and I am responsible for Autohome’s Logistics Staff. In other words, I coordinate the shipment of our products in all the geographical areas of the world. It is my working group that, for example, prints your name on the label and schedules the collection of the goods. It is a role that engages me very much especially in the period May/July, where the shipping of roof tents is concentrated.
I think I know this product very well and mainly the superior quality of Autohome curtains, the reasons that make a difference. But I do not want to influence anyone in the choice. Suggesting the most suitable tent is a task that is primarily the responsibility of our dealers. To those who know you directly and talk to you. I only tell you to match your rightful reflections of a rational, practical order, with even a pinch of your instinct. So, buy the tent that you really like. Also, in aesthetics and design. You will all enjoy any Autohome tent a lot. Quality is quality… While in aesthetics the decision is very personal. In any case, for me the best-selling Autohome tents are the white shell tents, while I do prefer colours… or grey for the fabric. The sober colours are the ones customers like the most, but I repeat, everyone has their own tastes… The roof tent is a pleasure: start with colours!
Don’t you want to take a position? So, I will ask you a direct question, what tent do you personally use?
Even if sooner or later I will get a nice 4×4 and then the choices will be suitable for the vehicle, I have been using AIRTOP BLACK STORM on my 2015 Opel Mokka for several years. On several occasions I also used a COLUMBUS VARIANT tent, obviously AHS tents, i.e., tents “that have a real roof”. Now it will seem that I am too biased, but I am very sincere in saying that choosing an Autohome tent is never wrong! Because Autohome brings to the highest levels of practicality and comfort what are the guiding values of roof tents, that is versatility and freedom of movement. In addition, the durability, the security of having it as a faithful travel companion, creates an almost affective link between the tent and users, which I believe characterises Autohome products.
Returning to my personal relationship with this product, I will say that the thing I like best when using roof tents is sleeping up from the ground: a unique pleasure! In addition, Autohome tents do not overhang the profile of the car mirrors and they are therefore usable everywhere, I can stop wherever I am, without constraints. Obviously, I cannot sleep in Piazza San Marco in Venice, but I will reveal that I practically slept under… the Eiffel Tower!

INTERVIEW
By Eugenio Martignani
Valentina, your career is like a fairy tale. You have found yourself at the top of a company that combines rigour and creativity.
A girl who thought she had a career between numbers and data, and instead found herself dealing with adventure trips and creativity. Quite a leap! Very positive anyway, and I consider myself very lucky. Today I am 29 years old, and I have been working at Autohome for 8 years. So, I joined the company very young, after obtaining a diploma in accounting as a commercial expert and programmer; then I completed a Master of Business in the city of Brisbane in Australia. Well, actually, I already had the journey in my blood…
In short, I moved from “numbers to colours”, from commercial trends to shooting organization between desert dunes and tropical forests. Within the company I take care of both the image of our brand, as well as specific aesthetic aspects of the products, “the face” of them. From designs to zips, fabrics to colour combinations, to the style of those elements and details that often make a difference, which also make Autohome products unique in aesthetic terms.
A part of my work that I particularly like, and that makes me proud, is the collaborative relationship with the automotive world, with the large car manufacturers which Autohome is the reference for when it comes to roof tents. I learned and continue to learn a lot from them. Always within this dialogue with the automotive world, I personally organize the
My name is Mike Spies. My company and associates began to import and distribute the Autohome product and to establish Autohome as a leader in North America over twenty years ago. I began this business thanks to my interest in the outdoors and traveling in remote areas of the continent from Mexico to Canada. Autohome was the obvious choice, having conceived, developed, engineered and manufactured roof top tents for over SIXTY years, the name AUTOHOME guarantees quality. This was true when we began to work and import this extraordinary range of products from Italy, and it is true today. During the years many companies offering roof top tents have entered the market in North America, and then they have disappeared, while Autohome has endured.
When a product is successful, the market it creates attracts many who would try to replicate the product and get a ‘piece of the pie’. I would caution you to be wary of imitations especially those that suddenly appear in the market without any history of quality or proper customer service.
In this market, the reputation of Autohome stands out and it makes a real difference: an Autohome tent proudly declares its true origin and clearly indicates on the product that it is entirely manufactured to the highest quality standards in Italy. This quality, accompanied by regular certifications, guarantee the integrity of the product itself. This is an important reference for our customers, and assures them of having chosen the best.
Respecting the quality and integrity of our products is our mission even more in today’s increasingly competitive market. Made in Italy with a passion for the outdoors remains our philosophy. We do not use parts or materials sourced from manufacturers across the globe. We are passionate about controlling all aspects of our products to produce the finest product to our customers.
I am retiring from the business and leaving it in the capable hands of my partners and associates, but my advice remains the same: beware of imitations! Always choose the original Autohome. You will never suffer buyer’s remorse and will enjoy your Autohome tent for many years of happy back country travel Trips and adventures everywhere.
So, the question is, which tent do I recommend? I will tell you very soon, but first let me tell you what I do in Autohome, because by knowing my work you can better understand why I do not overlook any detail.
In fact, I have a delicate responsibility role in the company: I check that the products are always in line with our strict quality parameters. In short: everything comes under my scrutiny and that of the “Quality” team, in which I have been working for some time.
I am known as being very meticulous, indeed more than meticulous: inflexible. I believe that you must be strict to carry out such a commitment: do not “look in the face” of anyone. We can be friends outside working hours, but here I have no friends: I only have colleagues who have to do what they do well. I do not accept compromises. I interact with the various production departments and assist in the proper functioning of the procedures that lead to excellence.
Stressful activity? Maybe… It is important to find reasons to relax in your free time. Passions that, among other things, are in step with the sector in which Autohome operates: I am part of a Scout group, and my free time is used for trips, excursions, and outdoor activities. Thanks to this experience, I appreciate mainly the Airtop Medium 360° tent model, with white shells.
I love being surrounded by nature even when I rest, and this tent allows me to see all the surrounding environment. A truly 360° view!
Another model that I really appreciate is Overland, so faithful to the tradition of the tent. I like its shape, unmistakable. In addition, it is very stable despite being compact, thanks to a fabric of 420 grams per m2. Additional advantage: it is highly breathable. A big step forward on the theme of comfort and well-being, compared to the normal camping tents in lightweight nylon, which often create an annoying internal condensation.
I am part of the team that deals with making fibreglass shells. It is a work that we wanted to keep mainly manual, because it requires great attention and where each phase must be carried out in a “workmanlike manner”. On the market there are low quality products manufactured with unreliable industrial systems. Autohome instead decided to make fiberglass shells, one of its strengths, a symbol of the passion for product excellence. A typically Italian philosophy and which I am also proud of.
Specifically, I am liable for spraying “Gelcoat” in the moulds, a unique protection compound that can be white, black or it is available in various colours. Gelcoat looks like a very dense paint, but it is much more than a paint: it is made up of resin, pigments and some other substances that make its viscosity variable and thus allowing us to apply it better. Mastering gelcoat means promoting the life of the product and at the same time getting a perfect finish. This is why Autohome tents can always give something more in terms of durability and beauty. The first to recognize this value is precisely us who work in the company: each of our team has its favourite tent. Personally, I like all Autohome tents because I know how they are made: with our heart!
My activity takes place in the “fibre” department of Autohome, where we use that extraordinary material that is fibreglass. I use this word, extraordinary, because we notice every day what it can offer in terms of reliability and performance. However, it is also a material, fiberglass, which requires a lot of expertise and attention, the accuracy in the process that cannot be managed with machines, with moulding systems, for example. You still work manually for a good part and you have to know well what to do to obtain an optimal product. What we do in our department is therefore very different from serial products, almost all made in the East, where no much attention is paid to quality but to quantity.
Clearly it is a satisfaction to know that our attention, our production philosophy, are appreciated by customers around the world. I am convinced that the prestige and fame of Autohome also largely depends on the fibre components our products are made of. For this reason, my advice does not privilege one or another tent, but highlights the distinctive elements that make Autohome the most appreciated brand in the sector. Here in our department, we are all a little passionate about travel and free tours. It is a passion that certainly comes from there and it is strengthened by the knowledge of what a high-quality tent means. With fibreglass every trip has an extra peace of mind!
Dealing with business administration, almost all day in front of a computer screen to check numbers and draft documents just as full of data, could seem like a great boredom, almost a frustration. On the other hand, it is not so: as in all works, it is necessary to know how to find the meaning of what is carried out, if we want the “beauty” that lies in achieving a good result.
In our administrative team of Autohome we breathe this “positive” climate. But of course, it isn’t all puppy, dogs, and rainbows! Not really! There are times of great stress, and it happens at certain times of the year to be really under great pressure.
What gives us the charge in these moments is the awareness that our work, even if it produces almost nothing “physical”, is very important for the company and for all colleagues. But surely, we have to recharge and me and other colleagues do it… travelling!
A nice Autohome tent on the roof of the car and away you go! Even just for a weekend. A fantastic top up, also because we avoid hotel bookings and things like that. In addition to cut travel costs significantly, of course.
My favourite tent is Maggiolina: practical, dynamic and at the same time always comfortable. Having it means that you could also decide when leaving, it is there, always!
What do I do in Autohome? Everything that is production and business organization. I do not even have a precise role: I am active in every direction and in every department to optimize production lines. Everyone knows they can count on my help and commitment. Because my mission is to make Autohome run in the best way! To be clear, I could be the field commissioner, trainer, or coach of a football team. Everything must work, productivity must not be slowed down even more when half the world is waiting to receive our tents. We are in a phase of great market expansion and therefore I have the task of understanding what to improve to push further on the accelerator. All without giving up even a detail of our renowned quality. The team must run, play well in each department and be winning; the product must be perfect from every point of view.
Moreover, I have always been concerned with the quality and suitability of the goods and raw materials we receive from trusted suppliers. This often means supporting our logistics activities too, so that everything is planned and carried out according to our plans.
Personally, the tents I prefer are those that remain in shape inside the mirrors, practically all the rigid tents with a Fiberglass roof. For example, even the expandable ones could be, if assembled, however, as the mythical Nino Cirani taught us. He rests the ladder on the front bonnet and the entire structure remains in shape. You can then stop everywhere without any problems. Life is already quite stressful, at least while travelling and on holiday we make sure to keep you relaxed to the fullest!
It was a challenging adventure, at times really hard, but we managed to get the roof tent appreciated all over the world. We have a planetary success, a new way of understanding the freedom to travel. We are proud of this result, even more than the important development of our company.
I remember that at the beginning of our activity there were many problems: in particular, the economic funds available were always few, but thanks to so much determination and desire to carry out our project, we were able to get the company off the ground.
A strategic factor was to decide to take part in the sector fairs: only in Italy more than 10 fairs per year. Every trade agreement we draft was always a win that filled us with satisfaction. However, sometimes we also happened to return to the site disappointed by the poor results. What bothered us morally the most was the fact that some people made fun of us for the “strange” product we offered. There were moments that seemed that we had to cross desert, an arid ground destined to make nothing grow. Other than adventures in the dunes in 4×4… it was us who saw success as a mirage!
Producing the first Maggiolina, then, was not easy. In the early years we did not have the technology necessary to combine the quality of craftsmanship to the speed of production. In short, we were not ready to make huge numbers of tents. I remember that we even cut the windows of the tent one by one, that is, the fabrics with tailor scissors!
I particularly like to remember two episodes that give a good idea of our development. Two parallel Italian stories, one in Mantua with Maggiolina in the land of the Gonzaga and the other in the great Milan, the city that has always been the productive and industrial heart of Italy. There would be many stories to tell, but in particular I remember these two episodes for the meaning they have. So, I always remember a German manager, owner of a large communication agency, who told to me: “You are Italian, therefore in a better place than me who am German. You are more inclined to fun and happiness, therefore more inclined to express creativity and imagination, unlike me who was educated to reveal less of my emotions”. Another episode that I always take with me is the dialogue with an important French manager who told me: “You are Italian so you are good at cooking, so you know that to make a great dish there are many ingredients that must be carefully dosed.”
Also, with regard to memory, it is important to stress the great satisfaction thanks to the collaborative dialogues with the Automotive manufacturers. I did not think I would get that high. A top manager of a very prestigious brand, in one of our meetings, told me: “In Autohome you are amazing with marketing.” In the second meeting, another manager at their headquarters added: “We appreciate Autohome very much and we want to continue to spread the story of the roof tent that binds us together”. Episodes of this type repeated several times and continue to happen. For example, another strong satisfaction at a recent Las Vegas fair, where many customers came to our booth saying: “Beautiful design, you can see that it is an Italian product”. What does my memory have to do with recommending a tent? I think they are consistent with those who are looking for a product that, in tune with the Autohome spirit, guarantees satisfaction, fun, serenity, well-being and, above all, freedom.
Suggesting a specific tent is not easy. Exactly like a father who has to say if one child is better than another… The personalities are quite different. The family values they interpret are important. If you choose to stay in the great Autohome family, you will certainly be satisfied, because those values are in every tent.
Buonjour, my name is Liri Pasetti and in Autohome I work mainly on the French market. Every day I work with dealers and customers all over the world as well. I like to have the possibility to speak different languages.
I love France and all about this country, and this is probably the motivation that made me quickly learn the French language and get by well with the map. But not only…
I am a traveller by nature and character: I also organised challenging tours in distant countries. I also lived for a time in Australia, a wonderful land that won me over and that remains in my heart, especially for the natural environments it presents and the freedom it offers.
Personally, the tent I prefer is Overcamp: rational and very comfortable. It takes up little space on the roof of the car and guarantees me space for my mountain bike. As soon as I talk about it, I feel like leaving! Travel and physical activity are just my passions: discovering new things, living different experiences and, when the time comes, also trying to overcome your limits. What else can I say? Only: Happy holidays!
shootings and often coordinate them directly. A really challenging task, as they say: that doesn’t let you sleep at night! But it is a fantastic activity, full of satisfaction. The last shot always in the late evening, perhaps amidst the fires of a camp surrounded by nature, and then at the first glare of dawn ready to leave for a new location, before the tropical peak sun enters your brain… In memories, everything is beautiful, but living it directly allows you to understand how tiring, stressful it is. The precise planning of everything is important in these cases: my main objective. It is a job you learn almost day after day, shooting after shooting. And it does not end with “everyone home.”
In fact, I also manage professional relationships with graphic agencies and video makers directly. I also interact with several internationally renowned art directors and journalists. I need to think about how to structure and manage press campaigns, both at an advertising and publishing level.
Another very important commitment is fairs and events. I am liable for the Autohome attendance at all the main national and international trade fairs in the sector, events where I am often personally present. Then there are “our” events, such as Autohome rallies. It is necessary to take care of the invitations, the reception, the pre- and post-event documentation… With satisfaction I can say that I have always been present at all the main shooting concerning Autohome published in newspaper articles of magazines, websites, and advertising. Today with the web and social media, then, everything is faster, and everything turns into an image. That is why I am responsible for the content of our corporate website. I also draft social editorial plans and compare myself with the various influencers.
How do you manage the enormous workload of a company that is a leader in the roof tents industry?
As you can see, I have no shortage of commitments! Maybe that’s why eight years in Autohome seems to me to have passed very fast. I still see myself now entering the company for the first time with many fears of youth and today I find myself managing the communication marketing of the best known and appreciated brand in the world in the sector. An advantage to sustain the great rhythm of the activity is to be passionate about the “roof tent” product and what it represents: freedom, adventure, lifestyle, real contact with nature without sacrificing certain comforts and safety. A passion that is greatly fuelled by the dialogue with those who use roof tents at the highest levels. Today, as eight years ago, I am very fascinated to listen to the great travelers talking about travel experiences and extraordinary moments of life. Dialogue with them and see that their passion for travel remains unchanged even after many experiences. There is never a trip or a tour like the other, and there is always to be conquered… the beauty of scheduling a restart, the enthusiasm of telling new experiences. A metaphor for life? Yeah, maybe…
What are your tips for choosing the right tent?
Advising a customer or directing them to one product rather than another is a responsibility I do not feel like taking. Especially since the roof tent is a very personal object. If I think about the fact that Autohome offers a range with over 100 models available, giving advice without knowing the user of the tent is really a gamble. Let us say that the experience I got over the years in the company, after assimilated the company DNA, would lead me to give some advice, but I repeat, it is more correct to say: tell me what traveller you are, and I will tell you what tent you should have!
I’ve always had a great passion for travelling and having adventures, for exploring new territories, in particular I love to know far-away cultures and customs. With a similar anticipation, where did I go to work? Of course, in the Autohome Export Office! It was a great satisfaction for me to join the company team and the very office where I wanted to be committed to.
It allowed me to reach this goal, especially my ability to manage different languages: I have a degree in languages, and I speak English, French, Spanish, and Chinese. I learnt the extraordinary Chinese language, complex but fascinating, directly in the city of Chongqing where I studied for about 2 years. A fantastic experience, where I learnt a culture rich in contrasts and full of wild landscapes to discover.
You certainly understood: in Autohome I am perfectly at ease. In fact, I can continue, while working, to fuel my passion for geography and ethnography, discovering different cultures and speaking with customers of many nationalities. I learn their way of thinking and their behaviours. Many different people, but all united in the positive judgment on Autohome roof tents.
Autohome quality is… transnational! It has no borders. This is also why it is not easy to say which tent I prefer. When travelling I want to have a practical tent and no problems: therefore, my tent for the roof of the car must be the easiest to open and close, the most stable and safe, considering that you sleep about 2 meters from the ground. However, I would like to give you some advice: it is better to have a roof. A peace of mind that makes travelling even smarter. Now I know what you’re thinking, and I tell you that you’re right: for me the top is always Maggiolina! Any model is fine, but it is important to have the handle to open and close the tent. That gesture for me is a real symbol: I am travelling, I am free, I am myself.
My manager says that at work I am “a fighting machine”. I consider it a great compliment because I like working. I deal with finishes, a delicate task, with responsibility, because it is often the details that become the expression of the care dedicated by the company to the product, what the customers notice the most. I work mainly in pairs with a colleague, who is also very dynamic and… combative! After all, the rhythm is kept in two, as in rowing, for example. I am convinced that for many of the finishing jobs we women are ideal, more than men. We are very precise and meticulous. Logically, there are also types of operations, such as body finishes and polishing, which require more physical strength… but also for these tasks we trying to cope! After several years at Autohome, I became a bit of a benchmark in my department, and this gives me further satisfaction.
The tent that I prefer, and perhaps this choice of mine will arouse some amazement, is not a shell tent: I personally appreciate the folding model Overland Bordeaux. In particular, that shade of colour fascinates me. Because it corresponds to my desire for imagination and freedom: I think that nowadays a little colour is good for the spirit! I especially love the burgundy in contrast with the gray, as well as contrasted are the bright colours of my bike: white and blue. Oh, I did not say that? My great passion is motorcycles. Better if accompanied by a healthy adventure… If you understood my character and how I travel… then try to keep up with my rhythm!
Which tent to put on the roof of your vehicle? This is always a “good question” which it is not easy to answer to. The roof tent is in fact a product with peculiar characteristics: first of all, you have to consider the preferred destinations and the type of holiday that you choose. As well as the type of vehicle you own. I think I might be able to give you some advice, though. My name is Alessandro Leoni, and I am Product Manager at Autohome. When there are highly debated issues or decision points to unravel, they all come knocking on my department. But it is right that this should be the case. Fortunately, at Autohome we are all very collaborative and with dialogue we solve even the most complex issues.
My role? I organize production, I work in research, development, and I deal with quality. Very often I support the purchasing department, not least I also find the spaces and time to organize fairs and events around the world. I have been dealing with roof tents for over 15 years, several of our tents I developed personally, coordinating the staff of my department. Many technical measures, original solutions and innovative projects were tested and endorsed by me.
Beyond my role in the company, I truly believe that Autohome tents are fantastic and have something more in the industry, from every point of view. And I am certain thanks to the many compliments we continue to receive, even from very demanding users, who are always hard to please.
I believe that our tents have a “soul”, a creative spirit. In the forms and management of technical solutions. Also, because they are still made mainly by hand, with the utmost care, almost an art. Typical of Italy and, I would say, as belonging to the “Renaissance”. In fact, I often think about how the great Michelangelo worked… I know that it is an exaggerated parallel, but it allows me to understand the passion we dedicate to each of our creations. It is no coincidence that there are those who say that we are the “Artists” of roof tents.
It goes without saying that being Italian, that products manufactured in Italy contributes positively to our image. Quality and design, clean and elegant shapes lead to an image that the world always longed for. “You can see that in these tents there is an Italian taste that makes the difference”: this phrase was said at the Sema Show in Las Vegas by an important American importer.
Returning to my advice: I said to start by considering the type of holiday. If of course I have to face a holiday with different stops around Europe is preferable the hard-shell tent: I feel freer, less bound in the overnight stays. This tent, falling within the shape of the car, allows me to stop to sleep anywhere, even in the self-service areas, I am not obliged to go camping.
If, on the other hand, the holiday is more residential, or I intend to stay in the same location, the folding tent is obviously recommended, which also offers space for a large family. It is also very comfortable and spacious in camping, with its feet resting on the ground. You can also combine the veranda, so as to give more outdoor space, to children’s games for example. This choice becomes mandatory if I need more space on the roof of the off-road vehicle to transport tires or gas tanks.
A further suggestion: if possible, make a “Safari” assembly at Nino Cirani-style, you will be more independent and you will not have ladders that come out of the shape of the car. I do not wish to condition you. Each Autohome is a roof tent that can give great satisfaction. There is something for everyone.
Clearly there are and there will always be those who prefer the large hotel or the organized village and then there are people like me who prefer to travel by car in complete freedom.
However, in my opinion, a balance can also be struck on this point. How? Easy: combine your holiday by car with a tent on the roof, free where you want, by the sea or on the lake, for example, some nights in the hotel depending on the location you are in. And the game is done!
Sometimes I seem to exaggerate, but every day I would like to do my job in Autohome better. I think it is the result of the climate that we live in the company, where everyone wants to give their best, first of all because we love and respect the product we make.
Where do I do my job? My activity takes place in the fabric tent assembly department. My colleagues and I are in charge of assembling fabric tents, as well as scrupulously checking the quality of materials.
It is a real pleasure for me to participate in creating these tents, still today after 5 years since I have started working for Autohome.
It is always a thrill to think that the tent I am about to check is the same version Nino Cirani used in his ventures. For me, the adventure of Cirani is an extraordinary story, the reference for every travel-adventure enthusiast, masterfully told by the wonderful images it gave us.
I can tell you that the scale reproduction of the Defender 110 by Cirani, purchased in a model shop, is always on my home desk. It is true, the mythical Aziza is located instead at the Turin car museum, together of course with the Overland that stands on the roof. Sooner or later, I am going to see this vehicle, which for me is more than a means of transport: it is the symbol of a philosophy of life.
I have been part of the Autohome staff for several years and I mainly deal with the construction of fiberglass shells. In truth, I also have another task, which I am very proud of – I am the “Master of keys” of the company. What does that mean? With my team we work on the real “heart” of the tents, that is, the opening and closing mechanisms.
We are liable for connecting the base of the tent with the roof, the most delicate phase of the entire construction, which requires experience and special attention. A roof tent is characterized by its ability to open and close quickly… and it is on this point that quality really makes the difference! As it happens, Autohome tents became so famous and appreciated for the quality of these mechanisms. They always work and do not give you any trouble. There are three systems of crank openings for Maggiolina, two with gas springs for Columbus and four with gas springs for Airtop.
All systems are guaranteed for five years. Tested mechanisms of total reliability consolidated in more than 60 years of history. It is consistently reported in our advertising because we invite those who want to buy a roof tent to check how these mechanisms work. In unreliable tents, breakages (in every way!) start from here… For the sake of completeness, I would remind you that there are also folding opening systems for fabric tents. Devices that are assembled and controlled by other colleagues of mine. About “companions of adventure”: in the company they call me “wild” because I am always to help in other departments when they need it most, especially just before the summer season, when the requests are very high.
These are times when you say, what am I doing here? No issue. Working at Autohome is challenging and sometimes I feel like I am having an adventure. It is nice to work in the environment of travel and holidays, but you cannot help but think that it is not… your holiday!
What tent to recommend? Choose instinctively the one that attracts you, the one that you feel you adopt as your own. Autohome tents are all beautiful and all work great. That is why many people want them and then it happens that you have to wait a while. But even this problem can be solved: book them in time!
First of all, I introduce myself: my name is Cristina Fontanesi, and I am the sales and export manager of Autohome. In other words, I provide and offer technical and commercial assistance to our dealers all over the world. So, I directly deal with our American, Korean, German, Japanese counterparties… Dealers and partners often become friends, whom I esteem and whom I strictly work with. We built a relationship of mutual trust that lasted for years and which I am proud of. I know them one by one, and they know that we are a company made up first and foremost of passionate people. Although today our structure is large and cover an area of more than 15,000 meters, and we have an international vocation, we want to continue to be a reality focusing on the quality in relationships, in addition to producing with the utmost attention.
Perhaps the secret of our success is also here and that is why the demands of the market, from all over the world, are always many. Sometimes we struggle to meet any demand quickly. That is why I always recommend getting organized in time if you want to buy a real Autohome. I emphasize “true”, because there are many imitations, often almost all from Asian. These unreliable products are sometimes even disguised as brands that can be identified as European, to try to improve their image. But you really have to be careful before buying.
Working for quality is something else entirely. It does not just mean selling but being a partner of our market partners. That is why the satisfactions I receive are remarkable, in particular it makes me proud to be able to work with large car manufacturers. It is always a pleasure for me to meet the managers of the big automotive companies in the exhibition stands, in Europe and around the world. My advice? If you have to choose a roof tent, consider first of all that you will sleep about two meters from the ground, so the less fluttering parts you have around the better it is! This is one of the advantages which our Maggiolina tent based its success on. It is the best-selling tent since 1958. It opens comfortably by crank and makes solidity its strength. Of course, I have been using it for a long time.
Personally, I also love the Columbus tent, for its unique speed of opening and closing, but above all because it does not come out of the shape of the car and allows me to “camp” wherever I am. What else to say? Happy holidays, everyone!
Before giving any advice on tents, I tell you who I am and what I do in Autohome: my name is Daniele Poltronieri and I manage the company’s activities on the web. You can well imagine that my work is quite hectic… Also, on the web more and more aspects of the relationship with the market are between the dealers and the end users of our tents. In short, I sometimes solve problems that… drive our staff crazy! Of course, I relate closely to marketing.
I manage SEO consultants and programmers, as well as developing Adwords campaigns. Clearly, first of all, I run our website and online shop. I also have tasks offline: together with my colleagues I organize fairs around Europe, always as an active element of marketing staff. Also, when there are shots, video footage or PR activities… I never step aside! Recently I also worked as a supporter at events of prestigious car manufacturers. I was able to visit some of their “headquarters”: a fantastic experience!
Coming to the advice: I say right away that my favourite tent, and that I often use on my T-ROC, is a Columbus Variant Black Storm. I love its functionality and also its design. I consider myself an aesthete. Everything that is black is very much appreciated.
I chose the Black for styling reasons having a white car, but with a black roof and it suits perfectly. These tents I often use on weekends and to be in the front row to enjoy events and sports competitions. When the tent is open, it falls within the car’s shape and no one “makes a fuss” with me: it is like I am in a normal parking lot. You have already understood: if it is true that all Autohome tents are of high quality, it is also true that for me Columbus is the best! Obviously, this is a personal opinion. I do not want to influence your choices. But…
My work consists mainly of numbers and analysis to be carried out by computer. I am Francesca Cozzani, and I am a member of the administration department of Autohome. I like my job, but always being between data and company balance sheets often leads me to feel a great desire for nature, relaxation, and holidays! I am a great travel enthusiast, while for holidays I prefer maximum peace and stays dedicated to wellness.
The bicycle and the outdoor life are part of my personality, especially in the summer.
I think I have a serene and peaceful character. I appreciate the simple things, the transparency in relationships and the purity of sincerity. I say it clearly: I do not like to venture out into the world. I am gratified by weekends out of town exactly like a great tour. The weekend is definitely the time that coincides with my wishes for a tent. Starting from my great passion for the bike, I would like to recommend the Autohome Overcamp tent model to all cyclists.
In fact, it allows you to carry two mountain bikes on the roof, or a second tent in the case of a large family, obviously everything depends on the car. In my opinion, the Overcamp is a comfortable and essential tent, which does not clutter even on the car, let alone in the garage of the house. A perfect tent also to start experiencing the inimitable experience of “camping” where you want, in complete freedom.
Here I am! My name is Serena Frigidi, and I am the youngest “manager” of the Autohome staff. I manage people dealing with business relationships with Italian customers. I am also liable for interfacing, in coordination with the General Management, with the B2B Italy and Europe supply chain.
For example, when there are fairs in Italy, I am the person to be contacted before and during the event by both our dealers and end customers. I willingly attend any event as I love the contact with the public. After the pandemic and what happened also for the exhibition events… even more! My basic commitment is to assist customers in their requests, to respond adequately to all those who ask us for technical and commercial information on our products. The most interesting and fascinating fact is to hear the stories of those who use our tents: stories of journeys that become stories of life, extraordinary experiences. Often the stories are accompanied by photographic documentation to be envied by any journalistic editorial staff.
Are you asking me for advice? Truly difficult! Especially for one reason: the roof tent is a non-standard product; it is a subjective decision. This variability was also the reason for Autohome’s success: we managed to give everyone the ideal tents for every request. As you know, deciding depends on the type of car you own, the number of people in the family, but above all on the priority use of the tent and where you go.
Personally, on my Volkswagen Polo I use a Columbus Variant Carbon. For me it is the easiest, fastest, and most practical tent. According to some great travellers, it is the tent of the basic adventurer, who does not like many frills. I use it especially in summer, in high season, during the weekend. We always leave at the last minute on Friday evening to enjoy the sea from the early hours of the morning. Just this year I decided to stay in Italy to tour all Sardinia. Looking forward to it. While I wish you a happy holiday, I give you one last tip: book your tent in time! We are receiving many requests… because after what we experienced in recent months… there is a great desire for freedom!
I am the youngest in the purchasing department and perhaps the most active in terms of Km that I cover… on foot! Many call me: Ylenia I need this… Ylenia I need to know this… In short, my “great tours” do not take place in the desert or in the savannah but are among our departments. Movements aimed at coordinating supplies with the units that mainly deal with fabric packaging. I must never miss anything, everything must run at full speed, because not having a label, a certain yarn, a clip, or a Velcro available, means stopping some production line. A risk to be avoided, especially in the middle of the season! Managing procurement for more than 100 colour combinations, sizes and curtain patterns is not an easy thing. I also plan the activities of the tissue cutting department.
To the question: “What tent do you recommend?” I could not answer. It depends on many things… You always have to ask yourself what traveller you are and where you are going. Even for myself I do not have a favourite tent: I can only say that I prefer tents with a hard roof. With the ACTIVE HARD-SHELL technology, adopted by Autohome, the tent has the roof and a base firmly fixed to the car. This condition of great reliability makes me sleep more peacefully.
One thing I can say right away: for the work I do, I think I know the tents very well, so I can give some advice. In fact, I joined Autohome when I was a little girl, and then I was one of the first women to be part of the management staff. I am therefore well informed about the quality features of the products. I also experienced the evolution of the roof tents market and the new demands of users. The roof tent is a brilliant product, but to make it well you have to make certain choices. They are precisely those that stand out in the Autohome philosophy.
I remember that in 1982 we produced only one model in series, the famous Maggiolina. In those years only the Adventure version was available, in small size and had a large additional roof rack. The “first love”, I would say!
Yet to this day it is still the best-selling roof tent on every continent. At the time, although the numbers produced were reduced, it was already understood that these tents would first take off and would have a great success. To many it seemed like an extravagant idea to think of sleeping on the roof of the car: I do not tell you the amazement and even some laughter when we introduced the tents to the public at the fair! Today everything changed and our company became an international company. I am really proud of this; I have done my part too. In the company they tell me that I have a role of “administrator”, but I am more concerned with purchases. I interact with the personnel in charge, with the agents of the supplier companies and I also manage the fabric packaging departments together with my colleagues. Many different aspects are connected to each other. Perhaps also for this reason I often happen to be the person of the staff that… leaves the company last!
To return to the topic “what to choose”: let us say that every part of the tent passes to the scrutiny of my office and mine personally. In this regard, I can guarantee that we always buy first-class materials and components, a decision that always rewarded us.
Among the more than 100 Autohome solutions, combinations, and matchings we offer, the tent that I personally like the most is always the one that made the history of the sector: our inimitable Maggiolina! The model I prefer has a white shell, while for the fabric I am fine with any colour. Currently it is the gray that meets my tastes the most. Among the elements that lead me to always appreciate Maggiolina there is certainly its unique crank: it allows a comfortable opening but above all a closure without effort. The other components? I could talk to you for hours… it is me who buys them! Happy holidays, everyone.
